The known traditional African homes are circular huts with thatched roofs, built with locally available materials. These homes are more than just simple structures; they represent a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. The Amiiru people were culturally deeply spiritual community. Their spiritual beliefs, relationship with the environment and the social structures reflected in their architecture. The layout of the homesteads and houses carried symbols and specific meanings related to family, protection, status and spirituality. The family home, (nja) was a place of safety and refuge, and a sacred site. The term home was not just the house structure, but also a custodian of the individual in a community. A popular proverb expresses the African sense of community: “Go the way that many people go; if you go alone, you will have reason to lament”.
